After receiving feedback from the examining committee, the student submits one or more additional drafts, until the final draft is approved by the examining committee. The total amount of writing shall be consistent with the campus disciplinary communication requirement. A passing grade in CMPS 195 is earned when the final thesis is approved.
Transfer students should refer to the Transfer Admission Screening requirements. Students with college-level transferable courses must mail or email a copy of the transcript to Baskin Engineering Undergraduate Advising by July 1, in addition to providing the official transcript to the UCSC Admissions Office. Choose the type of student you are to learn more about the application process. Ph.D. students who have not advanced to candidacy by the end of their fourth year will be placed on academic probation. Petitions should be submitted along with the transcript from the other institution or UCSC extension.
At most, a total of three courses may be transferred from concurrent enrollment and other institutions. Each student must complete CMPS 203 or a course to prepare the student for CMPS 203 in their first year, after which CMPS 203 should be completed by the end of the second year. Each student must complete CMPS 201 or a course to prepare the student for CMPS 201 in their first year, after which CMPS 201 should be completed by the end of the second year. The DC Requirement in computer science (B.S.) is satisfied by completing CMPS 115, CMPS 195, Computer Engineering 185, CMPS 132 and 132W, CMPS 185, or CMPS 180 and 180W.
Prior to enrollment, you will be invited to meet with a Baskin Engineering advisor who will indicate which courses you will be receiving credit for and also a recommendation of first quarter classes. Student Organizations, Advising, and Resources facilitates up to 174 student organizations pertaining to the different interests of students. Admissions and awarding of need-based financial aid are handled independently of one another. Awards made at the time of admissions are made on the basis of merit only. Only Ph.D. students at UCSC’s School of Engineering are offered funding.
