I have always felt that we are “one light year away” from the planet Mars.
I could be wrong on this, but I’m pretty sure we’re closer to it than we think. According to NASA, the distance between earth and mars is “roughly” 8.4 light years. This is similar to the distance our galaxy is from the sun. Because space is so vast, it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where one is. But it is difficult to put a number on how far away it’s from the Earth.
NASA recently announced that Mars is about 4.6 light years away from Earth, but this number is still rather arbitrary. It is possible that this number is very close, but the difference between it and our galaxy’s is significant. The solar system, like the galaxy, is relatively small, so it is possible for a comet or asteroid to hit the Earth. This would, however, be the first time in a while that a space rock has hit the Earth.
It is also possible that the solar system is really far away and that the comet is much further. That said, that makes everything in the solar system move with the same speed. It’s even possible that the Earth is at the end of a solar system-like spiral. You can’t really put a number on this, though.

Well, it’s not really a question of “why”, but rather a question of “how many” as we are moving at the speed of the other planets. It’s not like we’re moving at the same speed as Mars. We’re moving faster than Mars, but not at the same speed as the rest of the solar system.
